Our glassblowing toolkit is a symphony of precision: the blowpipe, punty, bench, marver, blocks, jacks, paddles, tweezers, newspaper pads, and an array of shears. The glassblower’s bench serves as the nucleus, a meticulously organized workstation where art comes to life.
The journey begins with the preheated tip of the blowpipe, immersed in the molten glass, gathered like honey on a dipper. Through a delicate dance of marvering, the glass takes form, and a bubble is born as air is gently blown into the pipe. Layer upon layer, the glassworker shapes and refines until the piece reaches its approximate final size.
Next, the molten glass meets a stainless steel or iron rod, the «punty,» facilitating the transfer from blowpipe to final form. This critical step not only provides an opening but also defines the piece’s top.
